CERTIFICATION STANDARDS

General Standard Information: The following are the JAJ Health Care Education Consultants, L.L.C., and the Louisiana Certification Registry for Healthcare Ancillary Professionals, Inc. certification standards. The standards must be met to become a certified member. It is with the wish of the Board of Directors and administration that you join our ranks as a Certified Member. We also want to help you in any way we can to facilitate your process of becoming certified. Do not hesitate to write, call or email the office or a Board Member when you have a need for assistance. We look forward to serving you.

The JAJ Health Care Education Consultants, L.L.C., and the Louisiana Certification Registry for Healthcare Ancillary Professionals, Inc. is a certification registry for Activity Professionals,  Mental Health Technicians & Specialists, Long-Term Care Social Services Designees, and Dietary & Food Services Managers which is recognized by the state of Louisiana, and certified as such.

The certified member will receive the following benefits:

  1. Both Federal and state law states that Activity Professionals, Mental Health Technicians & Specialists, Long-Term Care Social Service Designee, and Dietary & Food Services Manager must be “Qualified”. One of the ways to become qualified is to become “certified”.

JAJ Health Care Education Consultants, L.L.C., and the Louisiana Certification Registry for Healthcare Ancillary Professionals, Inc. is recognized by the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, Health Standards Section, and meets and/or exceeds the CMS Rule on Qualifications for Activity Professionals, Mental Health Technicians & Specialists, Long-Term Care Social Service Designee, and Dietary & Food Service Managers.

  3. Professional Certification assures Administrators and surveyors that you have met the professional standards to become certified.

 

Credentialing Opportunities

Certified Activity Director (CAD)

Must have completed the Louisiana Nursing Home Association Resident Activity Director 36 Hour Training Program, and/or have active certification with the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals as an Activity Director Certified (ADC).

 

Certified Activity Specialist (CAS)

Must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following curriculums, (Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Physical Education) and/or have completed the Louisiana Nursing Home Association Resident Activity Director 36 Hour Training Program, and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Gerontology, and/or have active certification with the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals as an Activity Consultant Certified (ACC).

Certified Long Term Care Mental Health Aide (CMHA)

Must have worked in a Nursing Facility for one year or more, and current on CPI Certification. Must have an active certification in good standing with the Nurse Aide Registry with DHH-Louisiana.

Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT)

Must have worked in Mental Health for two or more years, and are current on CPI & CPR Certification. An updated resume will need to be submitted with the application to validate work experience.

 

Certified Mental Health Specialist (CMHS)

Must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following Curriculums (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, Gerontology) and be current on CPI & CPR Certification, and must have worked in Mental Health for three or more years.

 

Must provide a copy of your college degree, and/or university/college transcripts and an updated resume to validate work experience.
 

Certified Long-Term Care Social Service Designee (CSSD)

Must have worked in a licensed Nursing Facility or ICF facility full-time for two or more years, have successfully completed a high school diploma or GED, and have fully completed the Louisiana Nursing Home Association's Two Day Social Services Designee Workshop. Must provide an updated resume to validate work experience and certificate of attendance in the LNHA SSD Course.

 

Certified Dietary & Food Services Manager (CDFSM)

Must have worked in the kitchen of a licensed nursing facility or ICF facility for two or more years, and have successfully completed a state approved course in Dietary and Food Service Management, and an accredited ServSafe Course.

Continuing Education & Certification Renewal Requirements

The following are the requirements to renew professional certification every two years:

 

Certified Activity Director

Five hours of continuing education in the areas of Recreation, Leisure Activities, and/or Health Care. Complete and submit a renewal application with a copy of the continuing education certificates, and/or sign-in sheets, and/or transcripts.

 

Certified Activity Specialist

Eight contact hours of continuing education in the areas of Recreation, Leisure Activities, and/or Health Care. Complete and submit a renewal application with a copy of the continuing education certificates, and/or sign sheets, and/or transcripts.

 

Certified Long Term Care Mental Health Aide (CMHA)

Must have completed 24 hours of continuing education In a healthcare or human service field every two years. Must maintain active certification as a Nurse Aide, and be current on CPI Certification.

Certified Mental Health Technicians

Five contact hours of continuing education in the areas of Mental Health, Counseling, Substance Abuse, and/or Healthcare. Complete and submit a renewal application, copies of CPI & CPR Cards, and a copy of the continuing education certificates, and/or sign-in sheets, and/or transcripts.

 

Certified Mental Health Specialist

Eight contact hours of continuing education in the areas of Mental Health, Counseling, Substance Abuse, and/or Healthcare. Complete and submit a renewal application, copies of CPI & CPR Cards, and a copy of the continuing education certificates, and/or sign-in sheets, and/or transcripts.
 

Certified Long-Term Care Social Service Designee

Five contact hours of continuing education in the areas of Social Work, Counseling, Health Care, or Long-Term Care. Complete and submit a renewal application with copies of certificates and/or transcripts.

     

Certified Dietary & Food Services Manager

Eight contact hours of continuing education in the areas of Dietary & Food Services Management. Complete and submit a renewal application with copies of certificates and/or transcripts.
